Road to California

 By: Paul Grady

VERSE 1
The road to California goes
Past hitch hikers lined in rows
Wearing Army Surplus clothes
Looking for a better day

VERSE 2
Following that golden sun
Two hearts turning into one
Oh how she and I would run
For a Chevy going our way

CHORUS
I feel good and I feel fine
When I hear those songs on the radio
There at Hollywood & Vine
You can sing along, you know how they go
At the end of the road to California
At the end of the road to California

VERSE 3
The road to California winds
Past the stilled assembly lines
Past the ghosts of better times
Buddy, how we all got burned

VERSE 4
gods that we should never trust
Tempted and persuaded us
But we are made of better stuff
We’ll take it as a lesson learned

CHORUS

VERSE 5
We harvested those fruit trees
Tasted autumn on the breeze
Now I live on pills and memories
Where tires on a blacktop whine

VERSE 6
What became of us you say?
Well two roads went their separate ways
She got married in San Jose
I hear she’s doing fine

CHORUS
